Newcomers

Arctic Warriors,

Welcome to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, otherwise known as JBER!

Located within the Municipality of Anchorage, JBER boasts a large military community of over 32,000 people and accounts for approximately 10 percent of the local population. Come prepared to be awed by this beautiful base, and very military-friendly state. Amid this region of Southcentral Alaska are picturesque, majestic, snow-capped mountains, lakes, rivers, glaciers, and plenty of wildlife. We are incredibly excited you are here and want to help you and your family get settled in Alaska as smoothly as possible.

PRE-ARRIVAL/SPONSORSHIP:

Your sponsor plays an important part in your PCS to JBER. What does a sponsor do? Sponsors provide information about the base and local area to help you and your family during all stages of your move. They can describe the mission and role you will play at your gaining unit; and assist with anything from housing to in-processing. Contact your gaining unit CSS to be assigned a sponsor. If your PCS is within 30 days and you have not yet been contacted by your sponsor, please reach out to the Military & Family Readiness Center to gain support at commercial: 907-552-4943 or 907-384-1517 (DSN: 317-552-4943 or 317-384-1517).

Have you heard about PCS Alaska? This virtual workshop is perfect for those soon PCSing to or from JBER. Ask your sponsor for more information or register at https://tockify.com/jbermfrc/. There is a wealth of information on the JBER Connect app as well.

NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION:

Our Newcomers Program is a three-day orientation for our service members and their families. All newcomers to Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson must attend the next available newcomers briefings to avoid military or travel pay inconsistencies. Attendance is mandatory for Department of Air Force and Space Force service members, recommended for civilian employees, and strongly encouraged for spouses to provide a wealth of information to make your assignment on JBER a success.

*   Day One: The Joint Newcomers Brief is Mondays at 9 a.m. in the Richardson Education Center (Bldg. 7, 4th Street, on JBER-Richardson). Joint Newcomers is open to service members of all branches, civilian employees, and spouses, and mandatory for service members.

*   Does not take place on federal holidays, family days/DONSAs, or in the case of base closure due to weather

*   Day Two and Three: JBER Newcomers Air and Space Force is held at the Elmendorf Education Center (4109 Bullard Ave on Elmendorf side) on Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 8 a.m. Days two and three are specific to Air and Space Force service members (mandatory) and their spouses (strongly encouraged). Civilian employees and their spouses are recommended to attend.

This streamlined process merges operations between the Military Personnel Flight and the Financial Services Office, along with other mandatory requirements. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service helpdesk at 673cpts.helpdesk@us.af.mil, or call our help line at 907-552-9940. To register for the next Newcomers Orientation sessions please go to https://tockify.com/jbermfrc.

Again, welcome to Alaska and the JBER team! We are glad you are here and part of our community.
