A west-coast based Navy SEAL team trained with Army Task Force 49 here June 15 as part of the Northern Edge 2009 exercise. During the training evaluation, the SEAL team practiced establishing security after exiting a helicopter and properly collapsing the perimeter while maintaining security when entering a helicopter. The exercise took place in mountainous terrain above the Joint Pacific Alaska Range complex north of Fairbanks, which provided the Army pilots a chance to practice two-wheel landings in a CH-47D "Chinook" helicopter. This type of landing allows the pilots to drop troops in confined spaces like rooftops and rugged terrain. (U.S. Marines Corps photo/Lance Cpl. Ryan A. Rholes)
