Snow removal procedures, guidelines for Aurora Military Housing Published Oct. 21, 2009 ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Winter is fast approaching and Aurora Military Housing would like to inform all housing residents of its basic snow plowing procedures. Safety is our first concern. Please follow these guidelines to prevent accidents: 1. Use caution around all snow plowing equipment and maintain a minimum distance of 50 feet at all times. 2. Obey speed limits. 15 miles per hour is the on base housing speed limit. 3. Keep children from playing in snow piles. In an effort to help keep our residents safe, the snow contractor will attempt to avoid times when Children are waiting for school busses. Please be patient. The snow removal contractor will get to your housing area as soon as Possible. Snow removal begins after two inches of snow has accumulated. Clearing of major roadways and sidewalks is the first priority. Wind rows will be created from the clearing and later picked up by the equipment. The contractor will place more cut-outs of these wind rows to allow easier access to homes. Do not attempt to go through a wind row. Instead, take the time to find the next cut-out to make your turn. Please be considerate. Prior to snow equipment arriving to your housing area, residents are allowed to push snow shoveled from their sidewalks and driveways into the roadways for the equipment to clear. Don't push snow into the streets after the equipment has completed the initial plowing of the roadways. This creates hazards for drivers and will result in offenders receiving a ticket. Vehicles must be parked in garages, driveways or overflow parking only. The equipment can't do their job with vehicles parked on curbside. The 3rd Security Forces Squadron will be notified of violations and vehicles will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense. Please be responsible. Residents are responsible for the removal of snow and ice from driveways, sidewalks, decks, porches, mail boxes and fire hydrants located in their yards. Within 24 hours, residents are required to clear all areas that are 75 feet from the foundation of their unit. Failure to keep these areas clear of snow will result in offenders being ticketed.
