Two Soldiers killed in Afghanistan September 27, 2010

Two Fort Richardson Soldiers were killed in Afghanistan late Friday evening (Afghanistan time), Friday morning (Alaska Standard time).

Pfc. William B. Dawson and Pfc. Jaysine P.S. Petree were killed when their convoy was struck by an improvised explosive device while traveling between Bagram Airfield and Ghazni, Afghanistan. Two other Soldiers were injured in the incident.

Dawson and Petree were assigned to the 109th Transportation Company, 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade from Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Dawson, 20, of Tunica, Miss., was a motor transport operator who joined the Army in September 2009 and was assigned to Fort Richardson in February 2010.

Petree, 19, of Yigo, Guam, was also a motor transport operator who joined the Army in June 2009 and was assigned to Fort Richardson in January 2010.
Next of kin have been notified.
