3rd Wing: Excellence Published Nov. 4, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Jack Sanders JBER PAO JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- The 3rd Wing continued its streak of excellence, completing the October UCI with an overall excellent rating. The wing upheld its standards of excellence set when it received an overall excellent rating during the 2009 Operational Readiness Inspection June 1-7. Units from the wing can take great pride in knowing that their dedicated service has earned them the highest rated grade given in since November 2008, the unit commander said. "I am extremely proud of the effort put forth by the entire 3rd Wing team," said Col. John McMullen, 3rd Wing commander. "An overall excellent grade is a huge accomplishment, especially in today's high operations tempo environment," McMullen said. "The PACAF IG showed up with roughly 100 inspectors and gave our wing a good hard look, and I think they were really impressed. My hat goes off to supervisors at all levels, not to mention the great work by our youngest airmen." The units evaluated were; the 3rd Operations Group, 90th Fighter Squadron, 525th Fighter Squadron, 517th Airlift Squadron, 962nd Airborne Air Control Squadron, 3rd Maintenance Group, 3rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and the 3rd Component Repair Squadron who all received an excellent rating. The 3rd Operations Support Squadron received an Outstanding, and the 703rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron received a Satisfactory. "I was the focal point for the Maintenance Operations Center," said Master Sgt. Angel Seafler, 3rd MOS and IG outstanding performer. "We've been ready for the UCI for quite some time now. The most challenging part was waiting for the team to come through our office because we were so excited." Once the initial excitement of the UCI died down, it was time for the 3rd Wing to show the Inspector General team they meant business, Airmen said. "The way I look at it, the inspectors want to see what we do every day and how compliant that is with regulations and standards," said Tech. Sgt. Librian Stephens, 3rd Equipment Maintenance Squadron F-22 Cast Chief and Pacific Air Forces IG team Outstanding Performer. The 3rd Wing's rating wasn't a solitary effort. "Dedicated Airmen, organized planning, successful leadership, and a tremendous amount of team work is what led to our UCI rating," Stephens said.
