Dean Denter, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and 673d Air Base Wing vice commander, at JBER, Alaska, Feb. 26, 2021. Ortiz was a key team member for the COVID-19 vaccination line by dedicating 18 hours to registering patients and performing other administrative duties. U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Karlie A. Gamez, left, 673d Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels information manager, is recognized as the Arctic Warrior of the Week by U.S. Army Col. Dean Denter, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and 673d Air Base Wing vice commander, at JBER, Alaska, Feb. 18, 2021. Gamez completed a project that involved preparing and updating 15 tablets, eight desktop computers and two laptops, ensuring personnel who were teleworking had 24/7 access to critical information during COVID-19 operations. Additionally, Gamez synced a real-time critical report for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reporting emergency petroleum, oils, and lubricants information, providing critical information to key Air Force leaders. Lastly, she played a leading role in constructing the fuels operations report, which equips major command leadership with up-to-date fuel and cryogenic capabilities. Kristi Orebaugh, right, a Senior Education Technician assigned to 673d Force Support Squadron Childhood and Youth Programs, is recognized as the Arctic Warrior of the Week by the U.S. Air Force Col. Kirsten Aguilar, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and 673d Air Base Wing commander, at JBER, Alaska, Jan. 8, 2021. In addition to her usual role, Orebaugh stepped up and acted as a CYP building supervisor, overseeing 50 staff and 130 children. She has continuously provided exceptional customer service for 120 families during COVID-19, working every day to ensure classrooms are meeting health and safety standards and mitigating COVID-19 exposure to JBER CYP children and their families. Orebaugh is currently enrolled in an early childhood education degree program, and shares her learning with her team members to provide top-notch child care. The AWOW is an award highlighting JBER’s top performing members.

U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Laura Marquis, center, a dental assistant journeyman with the 673d Dental Squadron, is recognized as the Arctic Warrior of the Week by U.S. Air Force Col. Kirsten Aguilar, left, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and 673d Air Base Wing commander, and U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Lee Mills, JBER and 673d ABW command chief, at JBER, Alaska, Dec. 11, 2020. Since arriving at JBER in 2017, Marquis has assisted 11 dental providers and performed more than 1,200 oral preventive procedures. Marquis recently led the Medical Control Center, providing continuity during a critical transition and training incoming teammates. She was responsible for sustaining 24-hour operations and providing 52 situation reports for the 673d ABW’s Health Protection Condition operations. Marquis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Wellness and is now pursuing a Master of Public Health degree. Furthermore, Marquis is her unit’s Physical Training Leader and competes in state-wide bodybuilding competitions, winning third place in Alaska’s State Bodybuilding Championships. The AWOW is an award highlighting JBER’s top-performing Airmen.

Additionally, Rowland is the primary aerial delivery support load planner and dispatcher for the 517th Airlift Squadron, 144th Airlift Squadron, and 211th Rescue Squadron. As a dispatcher, he coordinates aerial delivery mission requirements and assigns working teams to each mission to ensure all execution times are met. U.S. Air Force Airman Nicholas Ralston, center, a contract specialist assigned to the 673d Contracting Squadron, is recognized as the Arctic Warrior of the Week by U.S. Air Force Col. Lee Mills, right, JBER and 673d ABW command chief, at JBER, Alaska, Nov. 13, 2020. Ralston is the primary contract specialist for the 673rd Medical Group and 3rd Wing acquisition team. His application toward these responsibilities resulted in JBER’s first Periflux wound care systems as well as a disorder diagnostic evaluation program. Ralston has upgraded the 3rd Maintenance Group e-tool storage space, which fortifies training and mission requirements. Additionally, Ralston led the 673 CONS’ effort toward JBER’s trunk-or-treat, handing out candy to 1,000 personnel and their families. The AWOW is an award highlighting JBER’s top performing Airmen.

Arctic Warrior of the Week

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Hailey Miller, 673d Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels mobile distribution operator, is recognized as the Arctic Warrior of the Week by U.S. Army Col. Dean Denter, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and 673d Air Base Wing vice commander, at JBER, Alaska, Oct. 16, 2020. Miller is responsible for supporting three wings and 55 tenant units by safely operating refueling vehicles to supply Jet Propellant 8 to JBER’s aircraft. In September, Miller issued 300,000 gallons of jet fuel to 91 aircraft. This accomplishment led to her being recognized as the flight’s “Pumper of the Month,” which is awarded for issuing the most overall gallons. Additionally, Miller refueled 14 U.S. Navy P-8 Poseidon aircraft in support of real-world missions. Miller enrolled in two college classes in pursuit of her Community College of the Air Force degree. The AWOW is an award highlighting JBER’s top performing Airmen.

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Casey Sharpe, holding certificate, 673d Comptroller Squadron financial analysis technician, is recognized as the Arctic Warrior of the Week by U.S. Air Force Col. Kirsten Aguilar, left, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and 673d Air Base Wing commander, and U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Lee Mills, right of Sharpe, JBER and 673d ABW command chief, at JBER, Alaska, Sept. 25, 2020. Sharpe demonstrated remarkable performance with the 3rd Wing Financial Management Analysis Team, where he played a significant role in the $25 million 3rd Wing financial year-end closeout, led certifying and accounting operations for the wing emergency leave program, and approved $814,000 for 175 Airmen and their families. Sharpe also managed the spousal licensure process, reimbursing 23 members $10,400. Additionally, he was imperative to Pacific Command’s Valiant Shield, for which he obligated $1.6 million, mobilizing 300 warfighters. Sharpe is serving a second tour with the JBER Honor Guard. The AWOW is an award highlighting JBER’s top performing Airmen.
