Moose Calving Season

Moose Calving peaks during May

  • Cows may aggressively protect calves
  • Calves that appear alone are almost always not orphaned, and they don’t need rescue
  • It’s not unusual for a cow to walk away and leave her calf someplace that they deem safe from predators for periods of time

Remember:

  • Respect a moose’s personal space
  • Don’t feed moose – it’s illegal and dangerous
  • Report moose, especially moose with calves, in housing, parks and schools, as well as any other wildlife concerns. You can use the "Report" function on the home screen of the JBER Connect app.

Contact SFS Dispatch 24/7 at (907) 552-7070 if you see a moose or other large wildlife, so they can notify our JBER Conservation Law Enforcement Officers
