773d CES gives Arctic Valley star new lights

Every year, members of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson’s 773d CES are tasked with performing maintenance work and renovations required on the 300-foot-wide star that sits at the edge of Mount Gordon Lyon. This year, an entirely new system is being put in place that will ease the burden of maintenance and troubleshooting, as well as the installation of new lights that will breathe new life into the star.

U.S. Army paratroopers assigned to the Scout Platoon, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army Alaska, hold reconnaissance training at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Feb. 10, 2022. The training consisted of trailblazing undeveloped wilderness and scouting a simulated opposition force. The Scout Platoon held the training to test reconnaissance and mobility capabilities in an arctic environment.

611 ACOMS conduct cyber defense activities in remote Arctic location

Stepping off a U.S. Air Force C-12 Huron and into freezing air, four members of the 611th Air Communications Squadron made their way to one of the most remote radar sites in the country, located 350 miles above the Arctic Circle and just outside the village of Utqiagvik.
