MSEP, PE, TDV/DSV/USR, QVIS/SI's are all acronyms that are unfamiliar by most, but for the 3rd Maintenance Group, they're all key to an outstanding maintenance rating.

The 3rd Logistics Readiness Squadron and the five squadrons of 3rd MXG are preparing for the biennial Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Team inspection Oct. 20-24.

The LSET team consists of 32 members from Air Combat Command and of Air Mobility Command who evaluate maintenance practices for quality and efficiency.

"This team will look at all phases of our maintenance culture," said Chief Master Sgt. Martin Page, quality assurance superintendent. "They'll assess everything from personal evaluations to our FOD (foreign object damage) program."

The focus of the maintenance group's Quality Assurance office, is to validate the practiced use of technical data, eliminate direct safety violations and unfavorable condition reports, the chief added.

"Bottom line, we have to make sure that the aircraft maintenance is sound and that we find solutions to the issues we're facing," Chief Page said.

If requested, the LSET team will help find solutions to these problems.

"Before the team even gets here, they see most of the documentation that we upkeep," said Chief Page. "This gives them an idea on our bright spots and the areas we could use help on."

The 3rd MXG Airmen are not facing this task alone. This year's inspection will include the members of the 477th Maintenance Group as a Total Force test.

"Our expectation is for the inspection team to acknowledge what the maintenance group has already identified and that they are on board with our recommendations to fix these problematic areas," said Capt. Justin Gilbreth, 3rd MXG quality assurance officer in-charge.

The maintenance group rated excellent 93.5 percent during the last LSET inspection in March 2006.
