Fort Rich gate closure Published Sept. 5, 2008 ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Beginning Sept. 15, road construction at the Fort Richardson main gate may lead to increased traffic at Elmendorf gates. From Sept. 15-18, traffic utilizing the Fort Richardson main gate will be reduced to one lane each way; please anticipate an increase of traffic at Elmendorf gates during this period. From Sept. 19-21, the Fort Richardson main gate will be closed and all personnel entering or exiting Fort Richardson, during that period, will be using Elmendorf gates. The Muldoon gate will be open until 10 p.m. Sept. 9 to accommodate the expected increase in end of day traffic. Traffic congestion at Elmendorf gates, at the Boniface Visitor Control Center and the Post Road gate search area, may be significantly higher than normal during the period in which Fort Richardson's main gate is closed. Fort Richardson security personnel will be assisting the Boniface and Post Road gates during this time. Please plan accordingly and consider Boniface and Post Road gates as alternative routes to the northbound Glenn Highway. The Fort Richardson main gate will reopen Sept. 22 and traffic can be expected to return to near normal levels. For more information, call Master Sgt. Christopher Black at 552-2132.
