JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- Starting Nov. 28, the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Library is offering artists of all ages and experience, a chance to bring their favorite book characters to life.
The library will be giving out free rubber ducks for children and adults alike to decorate in likeness of their favorite book characters.
“[Through] Dec. 9, anyone kindergarten and older, may pick up their duck,” said Jody Evans, 673d Force Support Squadron library technician. “The ducks are one per person, not one per family, so everyone can take part.”
The competition is chance to let creativity loose with the help and inspiration from several literary characters.
The decorated ducks must be returned by Dec. 10 and will be sorted into three categories based on age.
“The three age groups are kindergarten to 11 years old, 12 to 19 years old, and adults,” Evans said.
All ducks will be displayed in the library windows until the end of December for decoration and voting purposes.
“Library customers can vote on one duck per category starting Dec. 12 through Dec. 16,” Evans said. “There will be one winner per category and three winners total who will receive a prize.”
Even after winners are chosen, the ducks will continue to adorn the halls throughout the holiday season.
“The decorated rubber duckies will be available for pickup on Jan. 1,” Evans said.
