Policy changes requiring dependents ages 10 and older to present a valid Department of Defense identification card when receiving healthcare from the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Hospital will take effect Oct. 1, 2023.

If dependents do not have a DOD ID card, they or their guardian (if the patient is a minor) must visit the Patient Administration section to receive a Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System verification letter which states and confirms eligibility status.

The DEERS verification letter must be provided 30 days prior to the appointment. If not, the guardian or patient will be held responsible for the costs associated with the requested treatment or care.

After 30 days, if the patient has not provided evidence proving eligibility in DEERS, the patient will be sent to the Military Treatment Facility Resource Management Office to initiate the billing process.

To enroll dependents in DEERS and receive DoD ID cards visit one of the multiple DEERS locations located on base.
