Fitness center implements changes

The fitness center has implemented new weekend hours and the swimming pool has a new policy for allowing younger swimmers to swim unattended.

As of mid-July, the fitness center is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays to accommodate shift workers. And, in order to allow maximum participation and enjoyment by authorized users, the Elmendorf Fitness Center has developed a process to allow youth 11-15 years old to use the swimming pool without a parent or guardian present.

Because the only way to enter the pool is through the fitness center, pool users are subject to fitness center entrance rules which restrict individuals under age 16 from being in the center without adult supervision for safety reasons.

To maintain the safety of fitness center and pool users, youth desiring to use the pool without adult supervision will be allowed entry once they complete a swimming capability assessment and, along with their parent or legal guardian, sign a contract acknowledging their understanding of the rules associated with this privilege.

Upon completion of the contract, the fitness center staff will issue a swimming pool youth access card that will authorize the young swimmer unaccompanied access to the pool. They will need to present the card, along with their military ID, to the fitness center staff upon arrival.
