F-22 Raptor aircraft take-off
A U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor aircraft assigned to the 3rd Wing takes off during a routine training sortie at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Feb. 20, 2026. Unlike traditional fighters, the F-22 can sustain supersonic speeds without the use of fuel-consuming afterburners. This allows it to rapidly project air dominance across the vast distances of the Arctic theater to ensure homeland security. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Theodore Gowdy)
