The Four Chaplains: A foundation of spiritual fitness
Members of the 673d Joint Religious Operations Center pray during a service honoring the Four Chaplains at the Arctic Warrior Chapel on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Feb. 3, 2026. The prayer service commemorates the extraordinary heroism of U.S. Army first lieutenants George Fox, Alexander Goode, John Washington and Clark Poling. When their ship was sinking, they gave away their life jackets to other soldiers, linked arms and prayed together as they went down with the ship.
