3rd OSS hosts PAR decommissioning

Leadership assigned to the 3rd Wing and 3rd Operations Support Squadron smash scopes during a precision approach radar system decommissioning ceremony at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Oct. 1, 2020. The 3rd OSS decommissioned the old AN/GPN-22 PAR site, which was installed in the 1980s, after installing a new AN/FPN-68 PAR system. This system allows air traffic controllers to guide aircraft onto the runway in an emergency situation and is necessary to maintain current operations.
