Alaska celebrates Women Veterans Recognition Day

Suellyn Wright Novak, retired Air Force colonel and Alaska Veterans Museum president, shows a fellow military veteran her coins as part of the Women Veterans Recognition ceremony hosted by the Women Veterans Program at the Alaska Aviation Museum, Anchorage, Nov. 9, 2016. She spoke about the history behind the women who served in the military during the Revolutionary and Civil wars openly as nurses and aides – and undercover as men – on the battlefields.
