Recovery efforts continue in icy conditions
Alaska Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crew chief, Sgt. Sonny Cooper, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, surveys a potential landing site on Colony Glacier near Anchorage, Alaska, June 4, 2016. In November 1952, a U.S. Air Force C-124 Globemaster II crashed into Mt. Gannett in the Chugach Mountains near Anchorage killing all of the 52 servicemembers on board. Every summer since 2012, Alaskan Command, the Alaska National Guard, Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations, U.S. Army Alaska, 673d Air Base Wing, 3d Wing and Detachment 1, 66 Training Squadron personnel support the joint effort of Operation Colony Glacier, a mission to recover any human remains and remove debris.
