Alaskan NORAD Region prepares to track Santa for 60th year
U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Robert Williams, 176th Air Defense Squadron weapons director, prepares to help Alaskan NORAD Region track Santa this Christmas Eve. For 60 years the North American Aerospace Defense Command, including ANR at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, has tracked Santa’s movements as he travels around the globe on Christmas. The dedicated men and women of ANR have made the vital preparations necessary to help keep Santa safe on his journey around the world. When not tracking Santa, ANR's mission is to continuously provide warning of a possible aerospace attack within the region and will maintain aerospace control to include peacetime air sovereignty and appropriate aerospace defense measures in response to hostile actions within ANR's area of operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
