Firing the kiln
U.S. Coast Guard spouse Laura Fox molds a bowl with her fingers on a pottery wheel at the Polar Express Arts and Crafts Center at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Feb. 28, 2016. Fox began creating pottery four years ago, but moved to Alaska seven months ago with her spouse Senior Chief Petty Officer Alan Fox, United States Coast Guard Sector Anchorage command center supervisor. Fox says pottery is like a baby; it starts out as clay, you mold it and take care of it, though it takes a long time to make; and whether it cracks in the kiln or gets dropped or broken – you love it anyway.
