Chilling out and putting things on ice
JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON -- Firefighters of the 673d Civil Engineer Squadron, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, deal with heat, fire and water on a regular basis. Annually though, these firefighters practice their ice water rescue techniques. The training prepares firefighters on the proper methods of water rescue; when minutes and seconds count, it pays to be ready to act instinctively. People panic because they haven't practiced, and practice is just what the firefighters were doing last weekend. Given the number of lakes and open-water sources on and around JBER, water activity and snowmachines could lead to a higher volume of incidents. (U.S. Air Force photo/Mr. Tommie Baker)
