Historical aircraft undergoes refurbishing
An F-4 Phantom II sits in Hangar 21 on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Sept. 5, 2014. This is one of the many historic aircraft that have made JBER’s mission successful. According to an Air Combat Command fact sheet, the F-4 performed three tactical air roles: air superiority, interdiction and close air support. From 1970 to 1982, F-4E’s were used on JBER by the 43rd Fighter Squadron to support and defend Alaska’s air defenses. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Tammie Ramsouer)
