Alaska, Canada conduct joint arctic SAREX
Sgt. Murray Slack, a Royal Canadian Air Force flight engineer on board a 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron Cormorant helicopter, takes a pause from pre-flight checks to watch as the crew of a United States Coast Guard (USCG) H-60 helicopter from USCG Air Station Sitka, conducts hoist training on the morning of Oct. 29, 2013. The 442 Squadron crew was stopping over in Sitka on their way to a joint Canada/U.S. Arctic Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. Cross-border SAREXs are conducted regularly to ensure both Canadian and American SAR personnel are familiar with each others' operations in the event of an emergency response involving crews from both the Canadian Armed Forces and U.S. military.
