Mike Gho of the Fairbanks Fire Department checks the triage status of a simulated accident victim May 8 as part of Alaska Shield/Northern Edge 2007. The exercises, which are scheduled to run from May 7-18, will test military and civilian authorities throughout Alaska on all aspects of emergency preparedness as they respond to a variety of scenarios ranging from natural disasters to major accidents. On May 8, the Fairbanks Fire Department, along with other local rescue workers, responded to a simulated train collision involving hazardous materials and massive casualties. (Staff Sgt. J.G.
