C-17's aid in oil spill
An oil spill containment boom sits on a truck at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) New Orleans after being off-loaded from a C-17 Globemaster III from Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. The boom will be used to support the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response. Deepwater Horizon was an ultra-deepwater oil rig located 130 miles southeast of New Orleans that exploded April 20 and sank April 22, causing a massive oil spill threatening the U.S. Gulf Coast.
