Preparing for oil spills in the arctic

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- Tech. Sgt. Eddie Campbell, 611th Civil Engineer Squadron, uses a Bobcat to carve a trench into the ice March 1 at JBER's Six-Mile Lake during the annual Ice Operations Exercise. Approximately a combined 60 members from the 611th CES, U.S. Coast Guard, the Navy's Supervisor of Salvage, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and the Alaska Chadux Corporation participated in the annual exercise, where participants practice various oil spill clean-up drills in preparation if there was ever an event here in Alaska.
