611th CES crew starts construction project 3,000 miles from home at Wake Island
This is one of about 50 buildings slated for demolition this year as part of the plan to reduce Wake Island Airfield’s infrastructure 20 percent by the year 2020, which in turn will reduce management costs. Many buildings like this were built in the 1950s with saltwater cement, which causes the rebar inside to corrode and the surrounding concrete to crumble. (Photo by U.S. Air Force Capt. Amy Hansen)
