Douglas Beckstead, 673rd Air Base Wing History Office, shows a navigation chart to Tonja Anderson during her visit to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Sept. 28, 2012. Anderson was in Alaska to learn about the 1952 C-124 crash that claimed the life of her grandfather and 51 other passengers. The aircraft wreckage was recently discovered on Colony Glacier, 14 miles south of the original crash site on Mt. Gannett. During her visit, Anderson was able to view items recovered from the site.
