Gardening in Alaska challenging but rewarding
Root vegetables like beets, turnips, rutabagas and carrots grow well in Alaska gardens. While many Lower-48 staples like tomatoes, bell peppers and corn are difficult to grow so far north, there’s no reason not to leverage what works with the climate. Consulting your local extension office can maximize yield and minimize headaches while you exercise your green thumb. (Courtesy photo)
