Cold War radar sites an integral part of Alaska history

Oliktok Long Range Radar Site, located approximately 50 miles northwest of Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse, was constructed between 1954 and 1955. The site is one of 14 still-operational long-range radar sites throughout Alaska. Nuiqsut, the nearest community, is 30 miles southwest of Oliktok LRRS and has a population of 354.
