USS Anchorage commissiioned amidst falling snow

PACIFIC OCEAN (April 22, 2013) An MV-22 Osprey assigned to Marine Vertical Lift Squadron (VMM) 161 approaches to land on the flight deck of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Anchorage (LPD 23). Anchorage is en route to its namesake city of Anchorage, Alaska, for its commissioning ceremony May 4. The MV-22 is a joint service, multi-mission aircraft with vertical take off and landing capability due to its tilting rotors. The Osprey has twice the range of helicopters, and with a cruising speed of 272 knots, is more than 100 knots faster. (U.S. Navy photo/Petty Officer 1st Class James R. Evans)
