MEDIA ADVISORY: Wildland Fire Chainsaw Class set for March 28

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Fire and Emergency Services and Wildland Fire Support will host a wildland fire chainsaw class March 28 through 30 to train firefighters in the safe use of chainsaws for removing dead trees during a wildfire.

Students will include JBER and Eielson Air Force Base Fire and Emergency personnel and Anchorage firefighters.

The class will define and apply chainsaw safety standards as required by OSHA and agency handbooks, manuals, directives, and owner’s manuals; identify and demonstrate basic chainsaw operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and safety features; and demonstrate the tactical application of chainsaws in fireline construction and mop-up operations. The class will include one full day of classroom learning and two full days of field training.
