JBER will host Arbor Day Celebrations at 10 a.m. outside Orion Elementary School, May 16, and at 3:30 p.m., May 20, at the Troop Medical Clinic.

During the ceremonies, the State of Alaska Division of Forestry will present JBER a Tree City USA award on behalf of the National Arbor Day Foundation.

“This year, JBER is being recognized for 27 years of commitment to the objectives of being a Tree City U.S.A., and in 2022 we celebrate the 150th anniversary of National Arbor Day,” said Cayley Elsik, 673d Civil Engineer Squadron biologist.

JBER has been recognized as a Tree City USA, in part, by its annual recognition of Arbor Day and its commitment to planting and caring for trees in the community. These events began on Fort Richardson in 1995 and on Elmendorf in 2000. In 2011, the recognition was made to the unified Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

At the conclusion of each ceremony, a spruce tree will be planted at the site.

Media who wish to cover the Arbor Day events should contact the JBER Public Affairs office by sending an email to jber.pa.mediaops@us.af.mil, jber.mediaops@gmail.com, or calling (907) 552-8160 the day prior to the event, and provide the name of the media outlet, the reporter and a phone number.
