JBER announces change in installation mask wear March 1

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska – JBER officials have announced a change to the installation mask wear policy effective Tuesday, March 1.

Masks are no longer required on JBER for fully immunized personnel. Exceptions include when in health care settings; within medical facilities; when directed by a commander; when displaying symptoms, a positive test, exposure to someone with COVID-19; or when required by other laws, rules, or regulations. Personnel who are not fully immunized must continue to wear a mask in an indoor setting on the installation.

“Our community—both on and off the installation—has endured two grueling years under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic. I want to thank every member of Team JBER for the sacrifices you’ve made and the resilience you’ve shown to enable us to maintain our readiness,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Kirsten G. Aguilar, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and 673d Air Base Wing commander. “While fully immunized personnel can drop their masks in most settings on the installation, this is not a time to drop our care or vigilance for one another. Please respect those in our community who may not feel ready to remove masks.”

All personnel on JBER must be prepared to increase their personal protective posture. Personnel may be required or directed to wear a mask to increase public health protection in certain situations. Fully immunized personnel may continue to wear masks at their own discretion.
