On Thursday, May 23, 2019, JBER will host the Knock the Rust Off motorcycle safety and mentorship ride which aims to familiarize motorcyclists with the Alaska riding conditions. The approximate 100-mile road trip will begin after an 8:00 a.m. safety and skills inspection.

The installation Motorcycle Mentorship Program provides both experienced and inexperienced operators an opportunity to share information and promote safe riding.

“The intent is to offer a place for JBER riders to perform basic maneuvers, drills, and motorcycle inspections in a mentorship setting where experienced riders can offer assistance,” said David Spellman, JBER Motorcycle Safety Program Manager with the 673d Air Base Wing Safety Office.

Some of the minimum requirements of the program include conducting periodic meetings with riders, emphasize formal and informal riding opportunities, and promote safety and esprit de corps amongst motorcycle riders.

Media who wish to cover the start of the JBER motorcycle ride on Thursday, May 23, should contact the JBER Public Affairs office by sending an email to jber.pa.mediaops@us.af.mil or calling (907) 552-8160 before 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, and provide the name of the media outlet, the reporter, and a phone number.
