MEDIA ADVISORY

Crews from the Alaska Division of Forestry, Air Force Wildland Fire Branch and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Fire Department will all take part in prescribed burning at JBER beginning Monday, April 29.

The goal is to remove grassy fuels present on approximately 1,774 acres of military training ranges and to reduce the threat of wildfires from incidental starts in those areas.

The burns are anticipated to last three to seven days, depending upon the weather.

Smoke from the burning may be visible along the Glenn Highway and from portions of Anchorage, Eagle River, and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.

Representatives from the Alaska Division of Forestry and the Air Force Wildland Fire Branch will be available for interviews at 2 p.m. Monday, April 29. Media who wish to cover the prescribed burning should contact the JBER Public Affairs office by sending an email to jber.pa.mediaops@us.af.mil or calling (907) 552-8160 before 10 a.m., Monday, April 29, and provide the name of the media outlet, the reporter and a phone number.
