First responders and other Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson personnel will conduct an emergency response exercise Thursday, Jan 24.

The emergency response exercise will test the capabilities of security, fire, medical, explosive ordnance disposal, communications, and other JBER personnel, and is one of a series of exercises scheduled for 2019.

JBER regularly conducts exercises to maintain unit and individual readiness in response to a wide variety of scenarios.

“Readiness is key to our mission at JBER,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Patricia Csànk, commander of JBER and the 673d Air Base Wing. “Our team must be ready at a moment’s notice to respond to any threat, from inside or outside our gates. We are making every effort to ensure our local community is not impacted by the base’s exercise on Thursday, and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding for any inconveniences.”

People who live and work near the installation may notice increased emergency vehicle activity, sirens, loudspeaker announcements, alert notifications and longer wait times at the gates during the exercise. Some noise may carry into the local communities adjacent to JBER.
