CHIEF MASTER SGT. WILLIAM D. JONES

Chief Master Sergeant William D. Jones is the Command Chief, 688th Information Operations Wing, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. In this capacity, Chief Jones is the principal advisor to the commander on all matters of morale, welfare, training, safety, effective utilization, progression and development of 1,200 military, civilian and contractor personnel charged with developing, training, and exercising information operations tactics, techniques and procedures; analyzing and mitigating U.S. cyber vulnerabilities; integrating emerging information dominance capabilities in support of national, Department of Defense, joint and Air Force warfighters; engineering, deploying, and delivering survivable and resilient cyber infrastructure (deployed and in-garrison); and integrating communications and computer systems designed to increase combat effectiveness and the United States military.

Chief Jones hales from Sweetwater, Tennessee, and Dalton, Georgia. He graduated from Southeast Whitfield County High School and entered the Air Force in December 1987 as a Communications-Computer Systems Operator. He's a former Airman Leadership School and Communications-Computer Systems technical training instructor and an honor graduate from Basic Military Training and a distinguished graduate from every level of Professional Military Education including the recipient of the John L. Levitow Award from the Lackland Air Force Base Noncommissioned Officers Academy. His assignments include bases in New Mexico, Korea, Hawaii, Mississippi, Arizona, Diego Garcia and Colorado. He has also deployed in support of Operations ALLIED FORCE, NOBLE EAGLE, IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM and NEW DAWN. Before assuming his current position, he served as Superintendent, 49th Mission Support Group, Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, where he was principle advisor to the commander leading 2,200 military and civilian personnel charged with providing world-class, combat-ready support to over 6,700 members of the 49th Wing. Chief Jones was appointed to his current position in April, 2012.
