The Airman's Attic and Bargain shop have been doing beneficial things for this base for many years and have provided many opportunities for Air Force members.
Net proceeds from sales at the Bargain Shop improve the quality of life on base and the Anchorage community through the charitable efforts of the Elmendorf Officers' Spouses' Organization. The EOSO uses Bargain Shop profits to fund scholarships and support charitable causes.

"Last year the Bargain Shop contributed over $26,000 to the EOSO's charitable treasury." said Julie Roberts, manager of the Bargain Shop. In the spring of 2008, EOSO awarded $12,500 in scholarships to high school seniors, who are dependents of active-duty or retired military members.

The Bargain Shop accepts donations and they have a consignment program. If you have excess goods that you can't use at home, or can't take with you on your next permanent change of station the Bargain Shop can assist in selling these items them for you.

The shop accepts all types of clothing, home décor, small appliances, movies (VHS and DVDs), sporting goods, furniture, books, kitchen items, toys and games. The contract period lasts 49 days. If your items have not sold by the contract expiration date you have the choice of reclaiming them or donating them the shop. When your things are sold during your contract term you receive 75 percent of the proceeds and the shop keeps 25 percent. Consignments are accepted on Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The Bargain Shop and Airman's Attic are located at 8515 Saville Avenue, in the building commonly referred to as the old commissary building or the temporary gym. Both shops accept donations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The donation areas are located at the front of the building. Due to the lack of resources or space, large appliances such as refrigerators, exercise equipment, tires, computer monitors, printers or computer equipment cannot be donated to the Bargain Shop.

Store hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Bargain shop and the Airman's Attic are completely volunteer based and are always in need of extra help. The only requirements are that you have a Department of Defense ID card. You can be a dependent, active duty, or a retiree.
