Bulldogs reunite at Peterson AFB Published June 19, 2009 PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Historic Aircraft associated with the storied 525th Fighter Squadron "Bulldogs" will be at Peterson June 20 for the "Bulldogs" reunion. The F-15 Eagle and the pilot credited with the first MiG kill in Operation Desert Storm and one of the 525th's current aircraft, the F-22 Raptor, will be on display at Peterson during the reunion, along with the squadron's mascot, the "Fado (the Bulldog)" being flown in from Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. Currently stationed at Elmendorf AFB, the 525th FS was originally activated under the name 309th Bombardment Squadron (Light) on Feb. 10, 1942, to support Allied Forces in the European Theater of Operations. The 525th FS has been home to various aircraft throughout its distinguished history. These include the A-36, P-47 Thunderbolt, F-102 Delta Dart, F-4E Phantom, F-15 Eagle, and the F-22A Raptor. The Bulldogs are noted for striking enemy entrenchments in Sicily on its first day of combat July 6, 1943, softening enemy resistance for Gen. George S. Patton's invading 7th Army, as well as being the first squadron in Germany to fly the F-4E Phantom in 1969. Several former 525th FS commanders will be in attendance including Roger "Streak" Smith who set the world Time to Climb record of 100,000 feet in the F-15, as well as Capt. Elizabeth "Jackpot" Friebel, one of the Air Force's top F-22 pilots.
