Photos of C-17 crash site released

Officials at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson have released three photographs of the C-17 crash site.

This photo shows the wreckage of a 3rd Wing C-17 Globemaster III , a cargo aircraft, that crashed shortly after take-off at about 6:14 p.m. (Alaska time) during a local training mission July 28, 2010.

The four crew members on board were killed in the crash; Maj. Michael Freyholtz, 34, from Hines, Minn.; and Maj. Aaron Malone, 36, from Anchorage, Alaska, both pilots assigned to the Alaska Air National Guard's 249th Airlift Squadron; Capt. Jeffrey Hill, 31, from York, Pa., a pilot assigned to Elmendorf's 517th Airlift Squadron; and Senior Master Sgt. Thomas Cicardo, 47, from Anchorage; 249th Airlift Squadron loadmaster.

The Safety Investigation Board members have been assigned and will be fully assembled by Aug 2. The investigation is on-going and will continue for an undetermined amount of time. (Air Force photos by Senior Airman Cynthia Spalding/JBER PAO)
