MEPS enlistment ceremony room dedicated to Soldier Published July 10, 2013 By Tommie Baker Alaskan Command Public Affairs JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- In a solemn ceremony June 20, the men and women of the Anchorage Military Entrance Processing Station paid homage to Sgt. Daniel E. Woodcock by dedicating the Ceremony Room in his name. During his second deployment, Woodcock died in Ad Dawr, Iraq March 11, 2007 of wounds suffered from a building explosion while on combat patrol. Also in attendance at the ceremony were Woodcock's wife and children, his mother, and his three brothers. Army Maj. Kim Wilson, MEPS commander, presided as the ceremony room was dedicated. For his service and dedication, Woodcock was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart Medal. Woodcock was born in Glennallen, Alaska and joined the Army in 2000 through the Anchorage MEPS. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C. The staff of Anchorage MEPS annually processes approximately 1,100 future service members each year. "The Sgt. Daniel E. Woodcock Ceremony Room serves as the location where the oath of enlistment is issued," Wilson said. "May the next generation of service members who pass through this room be reminded of Daniel's service."
