JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- A Department of Motor Vehicle Express office will soon start providing services to all DOD cardholders and their dependents at the Exchange on JBER.
There will be a variety of services offered such as vehicle inspection, registration renewal, title transfer, duplication or renewal of licenses or identification cards, and permanent disability permit renewal.
They are also anticipating providing road-test exams for new drivers and will provide the same services as other DMV locations.
“Our thought was that service members don’t have the time to go stand in line at the DMV; if we provide the express service to them, it gives them other options,” said Jeremy McLaughlin, Army and Air Force Exchange Service business manager. “They have a location in [midtown], and that is still too far for service members to go during their lunch period or even after duty hours.”
Bringing the DMV here will give service members and their families a little bit more time and convenience, McLaughlin added.
The DMV will be between the UPS store and Stylique Salon and it’s tentatively scheduled to open in August. Their business hours will be Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“[This location] will be a convenience for them – quicker, easier, and not standing in line at the DMV,” McLaughlin said. “It’s a great opportunity for the service members.”
McLaughlin stressed that [Army and Air Force Exchange Services] is here for the service member.
There are currently three DMV locations – in Anchorage on Benson Road, in Eagle River, and in Palmer – within driving distance of JBER.
