JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARSDON, Alaska -- According to the Blood Bank of Alaska, someone needs blood every two seconds and 43,000 pints of donated blood are used each day in the U.S. and Canada. Blood donation is a four-step process: registration, medical history and mini-physical, followed by the donation. Each donation of 1 pint can contribute to saving up to three lives.
