JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- Recently, the College Level Examination Program published its annual list of the top military test centers with the University of Anchorage Alaska ranking in the top 20. This was a collective effort between UAA, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson’s Education Center and the JBER library to encourage members to take the CLEP exams.
CLEP is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge of a particular subject by taking a test rather than an actual college class. Students who pass an exam are awarded the credit hours that they would normally get only if they took the course. In 2024, UAA administered over 350 CLEP exams.
“This award represents a collective effort between UAA, the Education Center, and the library to encourage members to take the exams and provide the venue and study materials that prepare our Airmen and Soldiers to tackle the exams with confidence,” said Joseph O’Neil, 673d Force Support Squadron chief of force development.
The Education Center and the library provide counseling for members interested in pursuing their personal or professional goals through college and facilitate degree and certificate completion by providing military tuition assistance.
By completing CLEP exams, service members can save the limited amount of tuition assistance they receive each fiscal year to complete other courses in their degree plans. Degree completion times can be expedited, allowing service members to achieve their goals and get promoted faster.
“We all have the same goal: to see our military members and their families complete their higher education goals. Having the convenience of a test center right on JBER, makes this just a little bit easier,” said Becky Brokaw, assistant director of Military and Veteran Student Services.
