September is recognized as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. This month, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is planning community events to ensure service members know support is within reach. JBER is focused on creating connections within the community to encourage belonging, help-seeking, and support.

Some events throughout the month of September are:

-988 at the Gate: Installation leaders will be at gates handing out ‘988’ stickers and gun locks

-Dorm and Youth Center rock-painting activities

-‘Light up JBER’ 12k Fun Run

-SafeTALK classes, teaching how to prevent suicide by recognizing signs, engaging someone, and connecting them to an intervention resource for further support
