JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- The new 773d Force Support Squadron will be activating in a ceremony at Otter Lake on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, June 22.
The activation will redistribute personnel between the 773d FSS and the 673d Force Support Squadron, enabling the leadership teams in each squadron to lead a right-sized unit and more effectively execute their missions.
“Generally, force support squadrons around the world are heavily operated by civilians,” said Joseph Dyson, the new director of the 773d FSS. “JBER has been synonymous with having the best of the best selected to come and execute its missions, and naturally, we have the best civilian members in the DoD selected to execute the missions of the Force Support Squadron.”
The activation of the new squadron will transfer only civilian personnel from the 673d FSS to the 773d FSS and enable the leadership teams to prioritize a wartime, logistics and sustainment focus in the 673d FSS, and a community focus in the 773d FSS.
“Ensuring that we are able to provide premier resiliency programs for our members is paramount,” Dyson added. “The expertise and continuity of a civilian force allows us to continuously innovate, find efficiencies, and execute at an extremely high level.”
Constructs similar to the new squadron have already been implemented successfully at locations with significant Force Support engagement, such as Joint Base San Antonio, Texas; Ramstein, Germany; and Kadena Air Force Base, Japan.
“Although the 673d FSS and the 773d FSS have been separated, we are both still working closely together to provide the best services for all members of JBER,” said Dyson.
