POV stickers no long required Published June 26, 2008 By Airman 1st Class David Carbajal 3rd Wing Public Affairs ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- All privately owned vehicles are no longer required to have the vehicle decals, DD Form 2220, to enter Elmendorf AFB. Patrons entering the Fort Richardson gates will still be required to have the stickers on their vehicle to gain access to post. The Department of Defense common access card will now be the primary proof of authorization to enter base. Drivers will be subject to random inspections of driver's licenses, car insurance and registration upon arrival to the gate. "Since all 50 states now require insurance, proper licensing and registration on all vehicles, law enforcement agencies can track owners through the license plate," said Lt. Col. Paul Story, 3rd Security Forces Squadron commander. Although the decals are no longer required, they will be available at the Pass and Registration office for those who will utilize the gates on Fort Richardson. "Patrons can leave the stickers on their vehicles if they use the gates on Fort Rich," said Staff Sgt. Jeffery Lathrom, Pass and Registration NCO in-charge. "But drivers can take them off if they only use Elmendorf's gates." According to the Security Forces commander, the program was developed in the 1970s to expedite traffic but became a project requiring manpower and resources and an inconvenience to drivers. Over a year's time, the change is expected to save thousands of dollars in production of the stickers and save nearly 550 man hours. Base visitors will still be required to obtain an Air Force Form 75, Visitor Pass, from the Visitor Control Center located at the Boniface Gate. Upon the complete implantation of Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, the installation will not require vehicle decals at any of the gates.
