Arctic Warrior of the Week Published Sept. 5, 2008 ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- 2nd Lt. Kelly Edwards Arctic Warrior of the Week Organization and duty title: 3rd Communication Squadron Chief of Networks Hometown: Oregon City, Ore. Hobbies: Fly-fishing, skiing, camping, backpacking and anything outdoors Mission contribution: I manage a 45-person team of some of the most brilliant Airman in our Air Force, working countless hours in the Network Control Center to maintain the health of the Elmendorf network. Best part of your job: I get to witness a wide array of intelligence in Airman who use their knowledge and experience to solve critical problems that do not always have clear, concise instructions. Even though there are incredible amounts of AFIs and governing policies, it takes a great deal of creativity from these Airmen to solve spur of the moment outages affecting base-wide operations. How long have you been at Elmendorf: One year Time in service: Eight years Best part about being in Alaska: Never a dull moment Best Air Force memory: Being asked to officiate Staff Sgt. Jonathan R. LaPlante's re-enlistment ceremony. Quote from supervisor: "Lieutenant Edwards never recoils from a tough challenge or allows standards to waiver when pressured to complete. He is, first and foremost, a champion of all Elmendorf network customers, while expertly juggling increased security requirements, network downtimes for upgrades or maintenance, and Air Force directed software implementations."
