Halloween safety precautions on Elmendorf

  • Published
This year's trick-or-treat hours will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31. Drivers are reminded the speed limit in residential areas is 15 MPH; be especially cautious for children while driving.

Here are some precautions that will help to make Halloween a fun and safe experience:

1. Ensure your children have flashlights, or glow sticks so they can be easily seen.

2. Never trick or treat alone. Adult or responsible teen supervision is highly suggested during Halloween.

3. Stay on the sidewalks, and don't run.

4. Cross only at street crossings, never between parked cars, and never diagonally across an intersection. Look in all directions before crossing.

5. Stay away from and do not pet animals you don't know.

6. Wear clothing with reflective markings or tape visible to motorists.

7. Don't cut across yards or driveways.

8. Make sure costumes don't drag on the ground and wear shoes that fit.

9. Make sure your children can see and be seen.

10. Check the wrappers of commercial treats for evidence of tampering and do not let your children eat any treats until an adult has had time to inspect then.

The Aurora Housing office will be celebrating Halloween in their office from 3:30-5 p.m. Oct. 31.
